Dear Parents, Thank you to Ms. Roberta Breiding for serving as our 1st grade teacher this year. Coming in the middle of the school year is not easy for a teacher, but Roberta did a fantastic job for us. I appreciate her patience and her always kind manner with her students. It has been a pleasure to have Roberta here this year, and next year she has offered to substitute on an as needed basis. Till we meet again, Ms. Breiding!

Thank you, too, to all the preschool, kindergarten, and eighth grade parents who planned such fun and outstanding end of the year activities for the students in those grade levels. Wow, you are organized, and great at making fantastic memories!

There is still room in Summer School. The dates are from June 12 to July 13, Monday through Thursday, 8:00 - 2:00. The cost is reduced this year to $300 per child. Stop in the office to register.

Our new 1st grade teacher for the 2023-2024 school year is Ms. Juliana Morini. Juliana is a graduate of St. Frances of Rome School (yes, in Cicero!), Trinity High School, and Wisconsin Lutheran College, where she majored in Elementary Education with a minor in Spanish. For the past two years she has worked as a first grade teacher at St. Rafael the Archangel School in Milwaukee. As a child, she attended summer school at OLC! We are fortunate to have Ms. Morini back at OLC, and I am convinced that she will do a wonderful job with our first grade children.

Our summer office hours begin next week: Monday through Thursday, from 8:00 - 12:00 noon.

May you walk with God

This summer In whatever you do

Wherever you go.

Important dates: Monday, August 21: First day of school (full day of class)

Yours in Christ,

Dear Parents, We need to tighten up our uniform policy and our tardy to school policy next year, as things are getting lax. The uniform is a symbol of our equality of persons created in the image of God. It represents order and discipline. Excessive tardies are disruptive and serve as poor training for our Saints and Scholars. Remember:

  • Unless it’s a gym day, the only gym shoes allowed are all black or all white low-top sneakers; shoes in a combination of black and white are prohibited. No contrasting logos or soles.

  • Hair should remain its natural color.

  • Excessive tardies will lead to detentions (and fees for supervision).

Choir members from grades 4, 5, 6, and 7 are invited to come to school to sing at the 8th grade graduation on Wed., May 31. Interested members should report to the choir loft at 6:30 PM.

Summer School dates are from June 12 to July 13, Monday through Thursday, 8:00 - 2:00. The cost is reduced this year to $300 per child.

Good luck to all our 8th graders! Heavenly Father, we thank you for the wonderful privilege of knowing these young graduates and their families. Please watch over them and help them to use their gift and talents to make the world a better place:

Dear Parents, Our 8th grade Capstone Project presentation last week was well received and memorable. This project is a major research paper complete with a trifold presentation board. The topics come from Catholic social teaching, allowing the students to use their research, language arts, and religion skills to address real word problems from a moral perspective. See the photo below of Aaron and Mateo illustrating their project on “cell phone addiction”!

We need to tighten up our uniform policy next year, as things are getting a bit lax. The uniform is a symbol of our equality of persons created in the image of God. It represents order and discipline. Please remember:

Our girls’ volleyball season has ended. After an absence of a dozen years or more, volleyball has returned to OLC. Next year we hope to expand it to include boys and students from the lower grades (see photo above from our volleyball awards assembly).

Summer School dates are from June 12 to July 13, Monday through Thursday, 8:00 - 2:00. The cost is reduced this year to $300 per child, with no registration fee. For information, email the summer school director, Mr. Sean Knight, at sknight@olc-school.org or call Pedro in the school office.

Olympic Day (outdoor field day) this year will be on Fri., May 26. If you can help us, please email me or call the school. We need parent volunteers to make this day successful.

The last day of Extended Care, before and after school, will be Wed., May 31.

Kindergarten end-of-the-year celebration: Party! Games! Commemorative t-shirts! The magic wand! This will take place on May 31. Important dates:

Wednesday, May 24: last school Mass of the year at 9:30 with breakfast for 6th and 8th graders and their parents

Friday, May 26: last day of school for 8th graders

Wednesday, May 31: 8th grade graduation in church at 7:00 PM Friday, June 2: last day of school; 11:30 dismissal
