Dear Parents, We’ve placed a Catholic Relief Services rice bowl in each classroom in which students may place a few coins each day. These Lenten alms go to alleviate hunger and poverty around the world and in the U.S.: 75% percent of the funds collected support CRS’ international programs, and the other 25% of gifts remain here in the Archdiocese where they are given to alleviate hunger and poverty locally. This is a great way for your child to practice charity and almsgiving right here at school.

The 2nd trimester Honor Roll assembly for students in grades 4 - 8 will follow our 1:00 Mass on Thurs, Mar 17. Parents are invited to join us.

Tax Credit Scholarship: Join us for a statewide legislative call to action. OLC is looking for parents to join us on a trip to Springfield on Thursday, March 31 (previously scheduled for Mar. 17). We will meet with state representatives to discuss the Tax Credit Scholarship. We will gather in the school parking lot at 6am. Contact Ms. Candelaria Rosales if you are interested in participating.

Popcorn Fundraiser: Our Double Good popcorn fundraiser begins this coming Monday; details were sent out yesterday. All families are required to sell $100 of popcorn. This is our last mandatory fundraiser of the school year.

Students may wear green on Fri., Mar. 18 (and come out of uniform), to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Traditionally, green represents the Catholics of Ireland, and St. Patrick is thought to have used green shamrocks to teach people about the Holy Trinity (God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit).

The Way of the Cross: if you would like to participate in a live OLC Way of the Cross procession on Good Friday, a group of parishioners is meeting in Halpin Hall at 7pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays to rehearse. Students in grades 4 - 8 are welcome. Stop by the Hall for more information; ask for Mr. Garcia.

Dear Parents,

Lent is a 40 day season of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving that began this week on Ash Wednesday and ends on Holy Thursday. It's a time of preparation to celebrate the Lord's Resurrection at Easter. Many of us know the tradition of abstaining from meat on Fridays during Lent, but we are also called to practice self-discipline in other ways during the season. In his message for Lent this year, Pope Francis said that “we must persevere in doing good in the world, bolstered by prayer and by fighting evil in our own lives, including an addiction to digital media.” He said that “Lent is a time to resist these temptations and to cultivate instead a more integral form of human communication made up of authentic encounters—face-to-face and in person” (America Press). As parents, how can you help your OLC child to achieve this goal of quitting social media and talking to people instead? How can we be the best role models?

Tax Credit Scholarship: Join us for a statewide legislative call to action. OLC is looking for parents to join us on a trip to Springfield. We will meet with state representatives to discuss the Tax Credit Scholarship and why it should remain in effect. Did you receive a tax credit scholarship? If so, this will be a great opportunity for you to come out and share the impact this scholarship has had on you. We will be gathering in the school parking lot at 6am. Contact Ms. Candelaria Rosales if you are interested in participating.

Popcorn Fundraiser: It is that time of year again! Our favorite Double Good popcorn fundraiser is coming back. We will begin Monday, March 14 - Friday, March 18. Stay tuned for more information and how you can sign up. All families will be required to sell $100 worth of popcorn. This is our last mandatory fundraiser of the school year.

Dear Parents, You once again have an opportunity to participate in the 5Essentials Survey. It takes 15 minutes to complete. Based on survey responses last year, we made important revisions to our school programs at OLC. The link is below. The season of Lent leads us towards the promise of Christ’s new and abundant life. Use the attached Lenten Calendar with your OLC student for daily suggestions for an action, prayer, or contemplation. It’s in English and in Spanish.

We have a great raffle this month in which you can make extra cash: a 50/50 split the pot raffle. Tickets are $20 and they are sold in the office. 50% of the money collected will go toward the winner and the other 50% to our school. The winner will be announced Friday, March 4.
