Dear Parents, Tardy to school: Over 20 students were tardy on Wednesday this week. That is a lot! Tardy students lose out on instruction and disrupt the class. School is practice for the work world, and those who arrive late to work suffer the consequences. Please make sure your son or daughter is here by 7:50 at the latest.

OLC Olympic Day is Monday, May 23. Can you volunteer? We will have a variety of jobs. We are also looking for parents to provide donations of hot dogs, hot dog buns, individual bags of chips, bottled water, and ice cream sandwiches. Please email me or call the school if you can help out. It will be a lot of fun.

2nd grade boys and girls making their 1st holy Communion on May 7 will wear their 1st Communion dresses/ outfits AGAIN for the OLC Ribbon Mass on Thurs., May 19, at 1:00. Parents are invited.

Questions about financial aid, tuition, payment dates, or refunds should be directed to the operations office. This office is staffed on Mondays and Thursdays, and can also be reached by email: finance@olc-school.org

Library books must be returned by May 18: search the corners of your home! Students may be charged for books not returned.

8th graders did a fantastic job on their Capstone Projects this year. These research projects were on display for parents earlier this week. Some of the topics were very powerful. Congratulations to the OLC band for a beautiful concert on April 27. We are very proud of the progress our band members made this year.

Important dates: Thursday, May 19: 8th grade Ribbon Mass at 1:00. Parents of 2nd graders and 8th graders are asked to bring cake, cookies, brownies, and/or a beverage to share afterward in Halpin Hall. Parents are welcome to join us. Dear Parents, Thank you to all of you who provided treats for us during Teacher Appreciation Week. Many of us will never forget the teachers who encouraged us when we were children, and many of us remember our favorite teachers. During National Teacher Appreciation Week, “we pay tribute to educators who provide our children with the knowledge and skills they need to reach their potential and achieve their dreams” (NAESP). I would especially like to thank Ms. Lupe Castillo from the 1st grade class, Ms. Diana Vazquez from the 4th grade class, Ms. Tania Reyna from the 3rd grade class, Ms. Melissa Cundari from the 7th grade class, and Mr. Raul Vasquez from the 2nd grade class for their support with the week’s activities.

There will be a special recognition for our current pastor, Fr. Sergio Mena, following all Masses on May 21 and 22. All OLC students and parents are invited to attend Mass with us that weekend. If you can provide a snack or beverage to share, please bring it to Halpin Hall before Mass, as refreshments will be served following Masses on both days.

Summer School at OLC will run from June 7 - June 30, Monday through Thursday, from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm each day. Before and after care is available. The registration fee is $50 per child; tuition is $335, and includes meals and supplies. For more information, visit the school office or email me. Registration forms will be distributed soon.

OLC Olympic Day is moved to Monday, May 23. This is an outdoor recreation day. Can you volunteer to help us? We will have a variety of jobs: games, cooking, serving, student monitors. We’re also looking for parents to provide donations of hot dogs, hot dog buns, individual bags of chips, bottled water, and ice cream sandwiches. Please email me or call the school if you can work that day.

8th grade Capstone Project exhibition in Halpin Hall: Tuesday, May 10, from 6:30 - 8:00 pm. The capstone project is a major research paper complete with a trifold presentation board. The topics come from Catholic social teaching, allowing the students to use their research, language arts and religion skills to address real word problems from a moral perspective. All parents are welcome to come and see their projects. 2nd grade boys and girls making their 1st holy Communion on May 7 will wear their 1st Communion dresses/ outfits AGAIN for the OLC Ribbon Mass on Thurs., May 19, at 1:00. Parents are invited.

Friday, May 13: Walk-a-thon! This date keeps changing (sorry!) but there are quite a few end of the year events to coordinate. Thank you for your patience. Students should wear their gym uniforms.

Free lunch and breakfast again next year? This issue has not yet been determined by government officials, but as of now, no waivers have been issued for the upcoming school year. What this means is that families may be required to complete applications to obtain free or reduced-price meals, and those who do not qualify will need to pay.

Get VIRTUS training to volunteer: Go to our website for info: olc-school.org

Important dates: Saturday, May 7: 1st holy Communion for 2nd graders at noon Wednesday, May 11: Students may pay $2 and come out of uniform.
