Dear Parents, We are having a great first week of school. Attendance is very good and so is student behavior! Our enrollment this year has increased, too. We are blessed and thankful for all we have. Please take note of the following news items: The speed limit in the parking lot is 5 miles per hour. Don’t drive like Mario Andretti in the parking lot: it’s dangerous! Drive with extreme caution, please. Eat breakfast for free! Both breakfast and lunch are free again this year to all students in Illinois. Students who wish to eat breakfast must be in Halpin Hall by 7:30 each day. On the topic of free things...We have brand new backpacks filled with school supplies in the library. If you would like one, please see Ms. Avalos or me. School forms need to be completed, signed, and returned to the school office by Fri., Sept. 10. Students have gym class according to this schedule: Monday: grades K - 8 Tuesday: all grades except kindergarten and 4th Wednesday: preschool, kindergarten, and 4th grade only Lunchroom student behavior guidelines are attached, for your reference. Springfield trip: we are planning a field trip to Springfield for our 8th graders! The trip is paid for out of a grant we received; students will only need to buy meals. More on this later... Fundraising: There are three mandatory fundraisers this year. We will have two popcorn sales (fall and spring), and a chocolate sale at Christmastime. All medical forms should be turned in to the office by Sept. 24. If you have a doctor’s appointment scheduled after that date, please let me know the date of the appointment. School hours are staggered as a COVID precaution (and to maintain order): 7:50am grades 1, 2, 3, 4 7:55am grades PK, kdg., 5, 6, 7, 8 2:35 grades PK and kdg. 2:45 grades 1, 2, 3, 4 2:50 grades 5, 6, 7, 8 Volunteers require VIRTUS training (see our website); 15 volunteer hours per year are mandatory: https://www.olc-school.org/general-info Do you have the email address of your child’s teacher?
