Dear Parents,

Welcome back to school! Thank you to the many parents who were able to come to our meeting last night.

Next week students in grades K - 8 will take their iReady Diagnostic test. This is a standardized test in math and reading that will provide us with a starting point for instruction this year, and it will allow us to measure their growth in math and reading over the course of the school year. Feel free to contact your child’s teacher for test results, and make sure your child gets plenty of sleep for the best test score.

Do you know anyone with a rototiller that can till our little fenced garden on the south side of the church. We are preparing it for a school garden for grades 1, 2, and 5. If you know someone who can rototill it for us, or if you would like to assist the children and their teachers with planting, please contact me by next week! We hope to plant fall vegetables that can be harvested before winter.

We are having a Dress Down Day to celebrate Labor Day on Thursday, August 31. Students can wear red, white and blue instead of their uniforms that day. $2 to participate. Funds will be used for the school garden.

Flea Market: We are having a flea market to benefit the school, and will be renting out spaces that are about 10ft x 10ft in OLC's field on September 23 and 24. It is $30 for one day and $50 for both days, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you would like to rent a space, please contact Yashica Zuniga: yzuniga@olc-school.org. We will also be taking donations: slightly used clothes, toys, furniture, so clean out your garage! This is an opportunity for parents to do volunteer hours as well.

Important dates:

August 26 - 27: Parish Festival. Live music, food, games, and raffle. Aug 26 from 4 - 10PM; Aug 27 from 9 - 9PM at St Mary of Czestochowa, 3010 S. 48th Ct.

Monday, September 4: Labor Day (no school)

Dear Parents, Thank you to Ms. Roberta Breiding for serving as our 1st grade teacher this year. Coming in the middle of the school year is not easy for a teacher, but Roberta did a fantastic job for us. I appreciate her patience and her always kind manner with her students. It has been a pleasure to have Roberta here this year, and next year she has offered to substitute on an as needed basis. Till we meet again, Ms. Breiding!

Thank you, too, to all the preschool, kindergarten, and eighth grade parents who planned such fun and outstanding end of the year activities for the students in those grade levels. Wow, you are organized, and great at making fantastic memories!

There is still room in Summer School. The dates are from June 12 to July 13, Monday through Thursday, 8:00 - 2:00. The cost is reduced this year to $300 per child. Stop in the office to register.

Our new 1st grade teacher for the 2023-2024 school year is Ms. Juliana Morini. Juliana is a graduate of St. Frances of Rome School (yes, in Cicero!), Trinity High School, and Wisconsin Lutheran College, where she majored in Elementary Education with a minor in Spanish. For the past two years she has worked as a first grade teacher at St. Rafael the Archangel School in Milwaukee. As a child, she attended summer school at OLC! We are fortunate to have Ms. Morini back at OLC, and I am convinced that she will do a wonderful job with our first grade children.

Our summer office hours begin next week: Monday through Thursday, from 8:00 - 12:00 noon.

May you walk with God

This summer In whatever you do

Wherever you go.

Important dates: Monday, August 21: First day of school (full day of class)

Yours in Christ,

Dear Parents, We need to tighten up our uniform policy and our tardy to school policy next year, as things are getting lax. The uniform is a symbol of our equality of persons created in the image of God. It represents order and discipline. Excessive tardies are disruptive and serve as poor training for our Saints and Scholars. Remember:

  • Unless it’s a gym day, the only gym shoes allowed are all black or all white low-top sneakers; shoes in a combination of black and white are prohibited. No contrasting logos or soles.

  • Hair should remain its natural color.

  • Excessive tardies will lead to detentions (and fees for supervision).

Choir members from grades 4, 5, 6, and 7 are invited to come to school to sing at the 8th grade graduation on Wed., May 31. Interested members should report to the choir loft at 6:30 PM.

Summer School dates are from June 12 to July 13, Monday through Thursday, 8:00 - 2:00. The cost is reduced this year to $300 per child.

Good luck to all our 8th graders! Heavenly Father, we thank you for the wonderful privilege of knowing these young graduates and their families. Please watch over them and help them to use their gift and talents to make the world a better place:
