April 23, 2021 Dear Parents, We are only able to have Summer School if enough families are interested. Please return the summer school information sheet sent home by Monday. Summer school dates are June 14 - July 15, Mon. - Thurs., from 8am - 2pm. Before and after care is available. Phone the office to register or for more information. Our food service manager, Ms. Karen Artus, is taking a new job beginning next Thursday. We have appreciated her diligent service to the children at Our Lady of Charity School over the past several years, and though we’re sad to see her go, we wish her the best of luck in her new position. 6 out of 10 middle school students do not get enough sleep, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Children and adolescents who do not get enough sleep have a higher risk of obesity, diabetes, injuries, poor mental health, and problems with attention and behavior. How much sleep someone needs depends on their age. The CDC has recommended that children ages 6–12 years should regularly sleep 9–12 hours a night, and teenagers ages 13–18 years should sleep 8–10 hours per night. Help your OLC student get the sleep they need! We are having a second Double Good popcorn sale from April 28 - May 1. We encourage all our families to participate because earlier this year we were able to raise a lot of money with this COVID-safe fundraiser! The process to register for the popcorn sale will be the same as last time, and the directions will be sent out over school messenger early next week. We hope you all can participate, and enjoy this delicious popcorn! Parent volunteers are needed to help with Olympic Day (an outdoor activity day for grades 1 - 8) on Friday, May 21, and also for an 8th grade outdoor picnic on Monday, May 24. Email me ( fzarate@olc-school.org ) or phone Mrs. Avalos in the office if you can help out: 708 652-0262 ext. 201. Due to COVID-19, we cannot accept food donations this year for Olympic Day. Each student in grades 1 - 8 is asked to contribute $3 for the cost of lunch. Important dates: Saturday, April 24: VanGogh School Photographers will be here to take first holy Communion photos; boys at 11:00; girls at noon. It is funny to say as being here since Pre-K and making friends is the most memorable moment to me. Throughout middle school I got to meet and become close to so many people. I found my group of friends that care and love me for me. Making friends is very memorable to me because all through school I have made amazing friends I will never forget. Alicia Ramirez What High School are you going to attend next year? Freshman Center What was your most memorable moment at OLC? When me, Abby, Nicole, and Harmony were sent to go pick up a pizza in the office and when we got there the pizzas were super big and while we were walking down we could barely carry the pizza. When we got to Halpin Hall all the pizza was on one side and the pizza looked like a tacos. We couldn’t stop laughing. One word to describe OLC: Smart What are your plans/goals for the future?
