OLC NEWSLETTER

April 5, 2024

Dear Parents,

After spending weeks in prayer, fasting, and service during Lent, it may seem odd to your children that we don’t have widely similar practices for Easter. That doesn’t mean you can’t embrace the season! Commit to taking moments of little joy throughout the weeks, like random acts of kindness towards others. Consider reading the Acts of the Apostles to learn more about the early church (ctklv).

This coming Thursday, April 11, at 6:30 PM, Mr. Ferney Ramirez will speak to OLC parents in the student lunchroom on the importance you have in your child’s success, how to build your children’s self-esteem, motivation, and values. You will like Ferney! Please join us and invite your friends. The presentation will be in Spanish, with English translation. Any parent who comes to this workshop will receive three hours of volunteer service credit.

Workers from the National Museum of Mexican Art will begin preparing the south wall of our lunchroom this week for a bright new mural. Teaching artists from the Museum are working with all 6th and 7th graders on the planning and execution of this mural. Stay tuned...

Also this month: live butterflies are coming to preschool, kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 5th grade classrooms for science study. Watch them as they grow!

Spring Fling Dance for students in grades 6, 7, and 8: Friday, April 12 at 6:30

All school Mass next Sunday, April 14, at noon. The 1st grade class will serve refreshments after Mass in Halpin Hall. All OLC families are asked to please to join us for this liturgy.

Designer Bag Social: Friday, April 19, at 5:30 at St. Mary of Czestochowa Gym (5000 W. 31st St.). Play and you could win a fabulous new designer handbag!

World’s Finest Chocolate sale deadline to turn in $$$: Monday, April 22. No school on Friday, April 26: staff development day

Mother-Son Bowling night! Thursday, May 9, at 6PM at Town Hall Bowl: two games, pizza, and dessert for $10 per person. Open to all OLC boys (and their mom, aunt, godmother, older sister, or significant adult female) in grades PK - 8.

The OLC Panthers girls’ volleyball, JV and Varsity boys’ basketball, and cheerleading season is quickly coming to an end. The JV basketball team did especially well this year. On Friday, May 10, at 6PM we will have a Pack the Place fun night at the St. Mary of Czestochowa gym with basketball, volleyball, and cheerleading events, including parent vs. student games. All students who attend will earn a dress down pass for May 13.

Planning for next school year is underway, and guess what? Students in grades 5 - 8 will be bused twice a week to the gym at St. Mary of Czestochowa for physical education class. Volleyball, basketball, ¡y mas!

Yours in Christ,
