News & Notes
October 17, 2017
Dear OLC Families,
Fall has finally brought some “fall-like” weather. As you get your children ready for school, please makes sure items are marked with their name. In your child’s class there are many students who wear the same size. Marking items with your child’s name saves a lot of time and prevents any confusion.
With the weather getting cooler, we also start to think about what is ahead. In case of severe weather, we would notify you through SchoolMessenger using email and/ or text. You may also look on our school website and our school FaceBook page. Our school will not close if the temperatures get very low. Our school is warm and a safe place for your child. We would suggest if your child rides their bike or walks to school that you use your own discretion for their safety.
Tomorrow is literacy night for grades 1-3. Please come with your child to share the joy of reading! The evening begins at 6:00 PM. For a great article on helping your child with reading CLICK HERE.
Parent Teacher Conferences
Next week are parent and teacher conferences for all students. All parents are reuired to meet with their child's teacher. Our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students will be dismissed at 11:30 on Thursday, October 26th to allow for the middle school team of teachers to meet together with parents. There is no school for students on Friday, October 27th. To sign up for parent and teacher conferences CLICK HERE
A child’s start to the morning can completely drive their success for the day. Students should wake up refreshed, eat a healthy breakfast and arrive to school on time. If your child is difficult to wake up or cranky, they may just need their bedtime to be a little earlier. CLICK HERE for 10 ways to help your child to succeed in elementary school.
Just a reminder that students that arrive before 7:45 will be sent to before care and charges will be applied. We expect students to be at their desk and ready to learn by the 8 AM bell. Students arriving after 8:00 AM must go to the school office for a tardy slip. If a student receives a fifth tardy in a trimester they will be assigned a morning detention with a $5.00 supervision fee. Failure to attend the detention will result in a double detention.
For the second year, our Kindergarten through Eighth Grade students have access to IXL. This is a wonderful internet based resource to help your student practice Math, Language Arts, and Science skills. Each student received new usernames and passwords for the year. We HIGHLY recommend that your child spends some time daily on this website. CLICK HERE
Children usually will receive First Reconciliation and First Eucharist in second grade and Confirmation in sixth grade. It is important to let the school office know if you child has not received a sacrament that has past. We also need to know if you would like to have your child Baptized.
Please pray for our 6, 7, & 8 grade students as they attend Holy Fire this Friday. This incredible experience, sponsored by the Archdiocese of Chicago, is an opportunity for our youth to experience their faith in a new light!
KidStuff Coupon Books go home next week!!
Each student will bring home a KidStuff Coupon book next week. Please take some time and look through the book. The book offers some fantastic opportunities for Christmas gift shopping as well as using them as gifts! There are coupons for restaurants, entertainment, and shopping. Each book is $25. For every book you purchase, you earn 2 PCP hours. In your child’s bag, you will receive more information about this sale and a white money collect envelope. You will see that you can order books for those that do not live in our area! Families are not required to purchase any books. If you choose not to purchase the book, please return the book to school. Money and/or books are due no later than November 6, 2017. Books not paid for nor returned will be charged to your FACTS account. Thank you for your support!
